My conversation with Carl Safina:
"To discover to the world something which deeply concerns it, and of which it was previously ignorant; to prove to it that it had been mistaken on some vital point of temporal or spiritual interest, is as important a service as a human being can render to his fellow creatures..." A Natural Year in an Unnatural World
Last night the President spoke of the ways in which our economic world is changing. In fact, that change is taking place inside of and impacting on the natural world. What should our understanding and response be to those changes? 2010 was a year in which natural disasters took place at an alarming and unprecedented rate. In his new book The View from Lazy Point: A Natural Year in an Unnatural World
, ecologist and MacArthur and Guggenheim fellow Carl Safina takes us on a journey through the intricacy and interconnectedness of our economic world, our social institutions and the natural world which surrounds us.
